The Nigeria Correctional Service (NCoS), on Tuesday, launched the construction of 160 housing units in Kongo District of Kuje Area Council of the FCT.
The Controller General of NCoS, Haliru Nababa, who spoke during the groundbreaking ceremony, said the aim was to provide befitting accommodation for staff and reinforce the existing security in the area.

He said the initiative by the NCoS Cooperative Society (COCOS) would bridge the housing gap and raise the morale of personnel.
Mr Nababa said, “May I inform you that this housing project is earmarked to be replicated across all state commands to give the reform the required spread.”
He noted that two years ago the service constructed 160 housing units for its personnel in the FCT.
He then said, “Unlike the initial housing project which was executed by COCOS, in collaboration with KYC Ltd, this particular housing estate is entirely a product of COCOS, which is already the title owner of the lands to be broken.’’
He commended the effort of the COCOS executives for driving the initiative to that height and enjoined them to sustain the tempo.
The General Manager of COCOS, Lydia Abraham, said the cooperative would build the structures from the foundation to the roofing stage.
She said the estate sat on about 3.2 hectares where 3-bedroom terrace, 2-bedroom terrace and one-bedroom self-contain apartments would be opened to staff who could afford it.
