Single-faith ticket: Adamawa APC chair cautions Southerners not to scuttle zoning

The Chairman of the Adamawa State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Alhaji Ibrahim Bilal, has cautioned Southerners against being misled by those rejecting the party’s single-faith presidential ticket to scuttle the zoning arrangement in place.

The choice of Kashim Shettima, a Muslim from the North, as running mate to Bola Tinubu, a Muslim from the South, has received heavy bashing from individuals and groups, especially the Christian community.

Speaking at a press briefing yesterday in Yola, Bilal said it would be in the interest of the Southerners not to miss the shot at the presidency by looking beyond APC’s Muslim-Muslim ticket.

He said, “Our call, therefore, at this juncture is on Southerners not to allow themselves to be misled to scuttle the rotation of the presidency after eight years of power in the North by antagonistic sentiments over the Muslim-Muslim ticket, subduing the pragmatism of competence and capability.

“We can only say we question the motives of those behind the agitation to scuttle the presidential bid of the party’s flagbearer, because their real objective may be to maintain the status quo.”

However, Bilal called on the party’s leadership to do everything necessary to placate the Christian bloc within it to avert any rift going into next year’s presidential poll.
