The Ulama Forum in Nigeria, one of the popular Islamic clerics community in the country, has written to the United States Secretary of States, Anthony Blinken, countering the allegation of maltreatment of Christians in Nigeria.
The letter, sighted by Daily Trust, dated July 22, 2022 and addressed to Blinken, debunked a petition by some five US senators, lamenting that Christians are the primary targets of insecurity in the country.

The letter was co-signed by the forum’s convener, Aminu Inuwa Muhammad and its Secretary, Engr Bashir Adamu Aliyu.
The Ulama argued that the senators’ petition was not only ill-informed, but also misleading, arguing that the crisis has affected more Muslims than even Christians.
They called on Blinken to objectively investigate the allegation before jumping to take any action.
The letter reads in part, “We believe that a wrongdoing anywhere by whomever, is condemnable, unacceptable and intolerable, in all civilized societies without exception.
“We solicit your good offices and urge the attention of the United States Senate be drawn to the fact that the abhorred killings going on in Nigeria are acts of criminality affecting all manner of victims, but in truth, more Muslims have suffered than Christians.
“More Muslims have been killed and their houses and property burnt and destroyed in the Northeast and Northwest by insurgents and bandits, and more Muslims have been displaced internally and rendered refugees in neighboring countries.
“The five Senators seem to have reached hasty conclusions and made wrong judgement on a sensitive matter relying on mere isolated incidences to indict the Nigerian government as apparently supporting such acts as official policy.”
