NAPTIP warns Benue residents against online job offers

The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking In Persons (NAPTIP) has warned residents of Benue State against online attractive job offers.

Gloria Iveren Bai, the zonal commander of Makurdi Zonal Command, handed the warning at the weekend during the agency’s walk as part of activities to mark this year’s World Day Against Human Trafficking in Persons aimed to raise awareness on the situation of human trafficking.

“I want to use this opportunity to warn the general public that the traffickers are using technology to lure our children into trafficking. Be careful with what to read online; verify before you go for that online attractive job offer; football academy adverts and scholarship opportunities,” she said.

Bai noted that the warning became necessary for the promotion and protection of the rights of victims; to mobilise political will and resources to address the global problem of human trafficking.

She noted that this year’s theme, ‘Use and Abuse of Technology’, addressed the role that technology has played and is still playing in promoting and impeding trafficking in persons.

The zonal NAPTIP commander added that “A Walk against Human Trafficking”, would help members of the public speak out loudly against the evil scourge of human trafficking.
