Court remands FGGC’s teacher over rape of student

A magistrates’ court sitting in Iyaganku, Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, has remanded a teacher with the Federal Government Girls’ College (FGGC), Oyo, Timothy Ayobode Alayoteti, who raped a 14-year-old student of the school, for two weeks in police custody.

Earlier, the prosecutor, Mrs Folake Ewe, told the court that Alayoteti, between November, 2021, and May, 2022, had unlawful sexual intercourse with the 14-year-old student.

The lead counsel to the suspect, Tunde Olupona, who earlier applied for his bail, argued that it would give his client time to prepare for his defence.

The Magistrate, P. O. Adetuyibi, who refused to take Alayoteti’s plea, ordered his remand while police investigation continued.

City & Crime had reported that the elder sister of the victim, Mercy Gabriel, last week, raised alarm that her sister was traumatised weeks after her teacher, Timothy Ayobode Alayoteti, raped her.

Meanwhile, a parent told City & Crime that with the incident many of them were contemplating taking their children out of the school.

She said, “Parents reported this man (suspect) to the principal many times but she ignored. You can imagine how many girls have fallen victims of this criminal. I have read more than three girls’ accounts on our platform. They all fell prey to this wicked man.”
