Residents of the community had on Saturday morning raised the alarm that the soldiers stationed in the community had been withdrawn, forcing many to flee their homes.

When contacted, the spokesman of Operation Safe Haven (OPSH), a multi-security task force maintaining peace in the state, Major Ishaku Takwa, said “Nobody informed us about this.”

But, Alhaji Daddau Adamu, the traditional ruler of the area, who confirmed the incident, said the bandits attacked the village at around 7 pm on Saturday, shooting sporadically.

Ubale Pinau, a resident of the area who also confirmed the incident, said the bandits came to the village after the soldiers were withdrawn, which made it easy for the criminals to access the community.

He said; “They killed three people. I wasn’t surprised by the attack considering that the soldiers left the village on Friday, and the bandits were aware of that. So, soon after their withdrawal, I concluded that our community, which was the next target, would be attacked.

“And that is why before they came, many people fled. Now, it has happened. We are in a difficult situation. We are calling on the government to come to our rescue. Everything has been crippled,” Ubale added.

Daily Trust reports that many communities in Wase are in recent times are suffering increased bandits’ attacks, kidnappings, and cattle rustling, forcing many people to flee their homes to safe places.
