The Society for Gastroenterology and Hepatology in Nigeria (SOGHIN) has called on the federal government to act fast and address the exodus of medical doctors to other countries in search of greener pastures.
They also expressed concern over the non-availability of liver transplantation services in Nigeria despite the prevalent cases of Functional Gastrointestinal Diseases (FGIDs) in the country.

This was contained in a communique issued Saturday at the end of the 14th SOGHIN annual general meeting and scientific conference held in Kano.
SOGHIN, in the communique signed by its national president, Professor Jesse A. Otegbayo, and its secretary, Professor Olusegun Alatishe, said the conference had in attendance, over 65 gastroenterologists and hepatologists from all parts of the country.
