Customs impounds shoes, clothes, others worth N.40bn in N/Central

The North Central Zone of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has seized infectious shoes and clothes worth several millions of naira.

The service said its operatives tracked and arrested a trailer with loaded with 550 foreign rice on Mokwa-Jebba road with a Duty Paid Value (DPV) of N14,025,000.

The Coordinator of the Joint Border Drill Operations of the zone, Olugbenga Peters, revealed this to reporters in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital.

He added that the operations recorded 107 interceptions of contrabands worth N139,707,500 within the period under review.

Three teenagers were also intercepted who were being trafficked by a syndicate to Burkina-Faso.

According to him, “One of the most exceptional seizures was a luxurious bus belonging to All Express International on Abuja-Lokoja highway conveying 44 bales of acidic second-hand clothing and 16 sacks of fairly used infectious shoes worth N3,680,000.

“We also intercepted a 2019 Lexus jeep worth N21,000,000 around Benue axis.”

He added that operatives of the sector at different times and locations also intercepted and seized 3,068 25-litre kegs of PMS being smuggled out of the country.
