Why I vowed to ‘perform’ Hajj in Kano — Aggrieved Pilgrim

A middle-aged man, Jibrin Abdu, who was one of those that missed the trip to the Holy Land but vowed to perform and complete his pilgrimage at Kano Hajj camp, has spoken on the reason for the drama and scene he created on Thursday.

Daily Trust reported that there was a mild drama in Kano on Thursday when Abdu declared that he was going to perform and complete his pilgrimage at the Hajj Camp.

At the Hajj Camp, Malam Abdu from Gezawa became the centre of attraction after he was sighted dressed in a white robe and declaring that he has already started his pilgrimage at the camp.

Speaking to our reporter on the second day of Sallah (Sunday), Abdu said he deliberately created the scene to douse tension in him and other victims who were then so aggrieved to the point that they were busy and bitterly praying bad and insulting those responsible for their plight amidst tears.

“Everyone was then bitter and crying over what happened. I was also hurt beyond imagination. So, the only and best thing I felt to do was to perform ablution, dress like a pilgrim and perform the rites like I am there in Saudi Arabia. Maybe that will calm down myself and others.

“Thank God it worked for me and others as many stopped crying and attention was moved over to me. I saw people crying turn around and started laughing which at least doused the tension. It was really a sad and unforgettable moment and experience.

“I did not go back to complete the Hajj because I know it is not necessary and the objective has been achieved. We thank God for whatever happened. It is His will. We have witnessed Sallah peacefully. May God return our Pilgrims home safely,” he said.

Daily Trust reports that at least 745 intending pilgrims were left stranded at the Malam Aminu Kano International Airport (MAKIA) in Kano on Thursday after the last Saudi-bound flight departed the airport at 3:45 pm.
