The fight against corruption in Nigeria requires public sensitization and enlightenment, the Chairman, Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC), Abdulrasheed Bawa, has said.
He stated this in Abuja, during the unveiling of the program, ‘Corruption Tori Season 3’ produced by the Signature Communication Limited in collaboration with the MacArthur Foundation.
Bawa, who was represented by the Assistant, Commander and Head Creative Communication Unit, EFCC, Mr Oluka Chris, said more emphasis should be placed on sensitizing the public against engaging in corrupt practices.
He said the anti-corruption agency in an effort to achieve this, are engaging stakeholders, students, religious and traditional bodies through town hall meetings, seminars, sensitization programs, and inter faith bodies to ensure the mandate is achieved.
Director, Africa Office, MacArthur Foundation, Mr Dayo Olaide, said the fight against corruption is the responsibility of every Nigerian, “which requires collective effort, irrespective of tribes, religion or ethnic background.”
According to him, “You don’t need to wait until you become an adult before you can join in the fight against corruption. As an anti-corruption body, it is our mandate to ensure that we live in a free corrupt society, as this will help to bring development that will better the life of every Nigerian.”
Speaking further, he said the totality of what corruption has done to Nigeria is unenviable as it is evident in all corners of Nigeria.
Chief Executive Officer, Signature Communication Limited, VinMartin Ilo, said, the platform was organised to expose corrupt practices.
“To ensure this, we are working hand in hand with relevant bodies to ensure that Nigeria lives in a free and corrupt society. Corruption Tori platform is designed in such a way to educate Nigerians on the danger of corrupt practices,” he added.
