The Sokoto State Urban and Regional Development Agency has removed structures built on waterways in the state’s metropolis.
The Special Assistant to Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal who oversees the agency, Sidi Aliyu Lamido, said this was part of the measures taken to avert flood disasters in some parts of the state.

Addressing newsmen yesterday, Lamido warned land developers against distorting the master plan of the state’s capital, saying that, the agency would not hesitate to pull them down.
He also warned residents against land grabbing.
He, however, claimed ignorance on the purported quit notice served automobile mechanics at the popular Buzaye Mechanic Village.
On the governor’s directive that all unapproved houses at the Raymond Village should be pulled down, he said the agency had already marked houses to be demolished in the area.
“And some of the owners of those houses have started leaving the area,” he said.
