Library association decries poor conditions of facilities in states

The president of the Nigerian Library Association, (NLA), Professor Innocent Ekoja, has decried on the condition of libraries in the states.

He said the support for libraries from various state governments was not encouraging.

He said this at a press conference in Abuja over the weekend in preparation for the association’s 60th anniversary and conference of the NLA coming up tomorrow. 

Ekoja said the association had contributed actively in the development of the country in its over 60 years of existence. 

He said, “Because in the banks, military, industries in higher institutions you will find our members making our honest contributions to the development of the country. So, in every sector of the economy, you’ll find our members. 

“We also impacted a lot on library and information services provision in the country as it was in the forefront in establishing the National Library of Nigeria in 1964 and was responsible for coming up with guidelines in running the library.   

“We contributed actively to the establishment of African Library & Information Association & Institutions, (AFLIA) and we also have members who are members of the International Federation of Library Associations (IFLA).”
