Osun gov’ship: Don’t heat up polity, INEC cautions media practitioners

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has cautioned media practitioners against heating up the polity ahead of the July 16, 2022, governorship election in Osun State.

INEC National Commissioner and Chairman, Information and Voter Education Committee, Festus Okoye, gave the charge at the weekend in Osogbo, the state capital, during a roundtable with journalists.

Okoye said there was the need for objective reporting of events leading to the election and appealed to the journalists to always cross-check their facts before reporting in order not to heat up the polity.

He also called on all media practitioners to step up the sensitisation of political parties and actors on the electoral law and the need for a violent-free process.

Okoye said INEC was determined to a conduct free, fair and credible election in the state and urged all stakeholders to assist the commission in delivering on its mandate.
