3 in police net for burglary in Balogun Market

Three suspected burglars have been arrested for allegedly breaking into some shops at the popular Balogun Market in Lagos Island.

The suspects, Isa Seidu, Tairu Melaye and Lucky Chukwudi were arrested by operatives of the state anti-crime team, the Rapid Response Squad (RRS).

The police described the suspects as notorious burglars who have been on their wanted list for a long time.

The police said efforts were on to track the receivers and other members of the gang.

Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Abiodun Alabi, who confirmed the arrest, said the suspects are members of a syndicate who break into phone shops, boutiques, etc at Balogun market, Lagos Island, Ajah and its environs. 

The state police boss said on receipt of the information, operatives from the RRS were drafted to monitor the area. 

He said the exercise paid off as the gang, comprising Isa Seidu, 21; Tairu Melaye, 25; and Lucky Chukwudi, 43, were arrested while breaking into a shop at Balogun market, Lagos Island.

“Items recovered from the suspects include 97 pairs of shoes, seven fabrics, children’s clothes and lady’s bags. The suspects confessed to having burgled several shops in the past. 

“Investigation is ongoing to apprehend other suspects at large,” he added.
