They were received by two members: Bamidele Salam (Osun) Mansur and Manu Soro (Bauchi) on behalf of the nine lawmakers that had been pushing for the release of the captives. The wife of one of the kidnapped victims, Matilda Kabir, said, “We’re here to plead with the House of Representatives. The news we’re getting is not favourable. The news we got this morning was that one person was shot.”

Another family member, Aminu Lawal Uthman, said more pressure should be put on the federal government and security agencies to rescue the abductees.

Responding, Salam said he and his colleagues had on Tuesday contacted two persons involved in the negotiations to see what they could do to try to appeal to them “to soften the grounds of the abductors so that whatever their demands, the government would be able to meet them.”
