Nigerian businessman and filmmaker, Charles Okpaleke, has reacted to the enormous amount of backlash he received following his latest movie “Glamour Girls”.
The classic film, Glamour Girls, is a popular Nollywood flick that was first produced in 1994. The movie tells the tale about independent single women embarking on thrown paths within Nigeria’s traditionally patriarchal society. The remake was later produced and was launched on Netflix on the 24th of June.

The film producer who posted a 5-paragraphed statement on his Instagram account narrated how he has been going through the various reviews on the movie, both positive and negative.
He wrote, “It has been exciting reading a lot of the reviews for Glamour Girls over the last couple of days. Your positive feedback and constructive criticisms give us the motivation to keep doing more, to keep doing better. Thank you for loving, for criticising, for watching, all while knowingly (or not) telling
the world via your numerous platforms to do same.”
Charles further appreciated other filmmakers’ efforts in producing movies in a country like Nigeria. He said, “Shout out to all Nollywood filmmakers constantly going through the nightmare of making movies in Nigeria. You guys are a blessing and an inspiration.”
The movie producer further explained how the movie Glamour girls had been globally recognised during the short time of its release. “I hear we just broke a new record this morning! It has been milestone after
milestone, record after record, since the very day we released Glamour Girls, a Netflix Original, on Netflix! The whole world is watching Glamour Girls (A film for us, By us),” he said.
Charles also took a swipe at ‘self-proclaimed Nollywood filmmakers and critics’ who are yet to produce any movie or win any awards the film producer wrote.
“And of course, a huge shout out to other self-proclaimed Nollywood filmmakers and critics, who have produced numerous movies in their heads, won awards with them and even climbed the stage to make speeches, but are yet to produce any reality. We see you, we are rooting for you! A win, for one, is a win for all. ”
The remake of Glamour Girls is currently number one on Netflix Naija’s most popular chart. The filmmaker later announced on Tuesday that ‘Glamour Girls’ exceeded the charts in 16 countries.
