2 ex-convicts rob in Oyo, arrested in Ogun

Operatives of the Ogun Police Command have arrested two suspected armed robbers in Mowe, Obafemi-Owode Local Government Area of the state.

The suspects, who are ex-convicts, were reportedly coming from a robbery operation allegedly carried out in Ogbomoso, Oyo state.

They are, Wasiu Opeyemi (37), an indigene of Ijebu- Ode and Noah Israel (27) from Benue State. 

The suspects were apprehended by men of the state anti-kidnapping unit who are on routine patrol at Mowe area of Lagos-Ibadan express way.

The police spokesman, Abimbola Oyeyemi, said the two men who were on a motorcycle were accosted by the patrol team “because of the suspicious manner they appear and they were stopped for questioning.”

According to him, the suspects made an  attempt to escape but were quickly surrounded by the operatives and taken to the nearest police station.

“On interrogation, they confessed to the police that they were coming from Ogbomoso in Oyo state where they had gone to carry out robbery operation. 

“They confessed further that all the goods in their possession are proceeds of the operation. They also stated that one of their victims was forced to transfer the sum of N100,000 into their account since nothing tangible was found with him.

“The suspects who claimed to have met at Oba correctional center while serving different jail terms, confessed robbing their victims with cutlass and other dangerous weapons,” he said. 

Oyeyemi said two laptops, eleven phones, one Rolex wrist watch, cash sum of N12,000 and bags containing household items were recovered from the suspects. 

The police spokesman said the commissioner of police, Lanre Bankole, had  ordered a thorough investigation of the suspects before transferring them to Oyo State where they will be prosecuted.
