Assembly probes impeached, suspended members over forgery

The Kogi State House of Assembly has ordered its Ethics and Privileges Committee to commence an investigation into the alleged forgery against some members of the House who were recently impeached and suspended for alleged misconduct.

Recall that three lawmakers, the deputy speaker, Hon. Ahmed Ahmed; former Majority Leader, Hon. Abdullahi Bello; and former Chief Whip, Hon. Moses Ododo who were last week impeached and suspended over misconduct, had released an impeachment notice against Speaker of the House, Matthew Kolawole purported to have been signed by 19 members.

But the lawmakers whose signatures were found on the documents have denied ever signing any impeachment notice against the Speaker.

All the members who spoke on the issue at the plenary have maintained that at no time did they sign an impeachment notice, saying the signatures attached to the purported impeachment notice were signatures signed by members in May this year endorsing the presidential aspiration of Governor Yahaya Bello.

The lawmakers, therefore, accused the former deputy speaker of betrayal of trust, pointing out that the signatures collected to serve as an attachment to the communique were “maliciously” used to further their inordinate ambition.
