The Director-General National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), Dr. Fatima Wazir-Azi, on Friday disclosed that the agency rescued 566 trafficked victims between January and June 22, this year.
She disclosed this during a stakeholders’ meeting comprising non-governmental organisations and civil society organisations and other partners in Benin.

“Let me give you an instance, yesterday, 15 victims were rescued and of this number, eight were from Edo, two Oyo, two Kogi, two from Osun, and one from Kaduna states. In the past, if you rescued 15, all would be from Edo State.”
Dr. Fatima also disclosed that Nigeria has more internal human trafficking than external human trafficking, adding “but because the media only report on transborder trafficking, we think it is more.”
