NDLEA arrests 99 suspects, seizes drugs in Ogun

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Ogun State Command, says it has  arrested 99 suspects and seized 7,889.03kg of illicit drugs between January and June, 2022.
The command also confiscated 82,766 tablets of assorted psychotropic substances and 17.3 litres of coidene within the period.
The State Commandant of the NDLEA, Ishaku Kwajafa, disclosed this in Abeokuta, on Friday at a programme organised  to mark this year’s United Nations International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking (IDADAIT).
Kwajafa explained the suspects comprised 80 males and 19 females.
He also hinted that the command counselled 34 clients and convicted 21 offenders within the period.
Kwajafa identified the lack of standard rehabilitation facilities as well as adequate office accommodation and operational vehicles as some of the challenges of the command.
The commandant, however, noted that the Ogun Command was strategically positioned through its various formations to cover the state for effective discharge of its statutory  duties.
He said, “This year’s theme will focus on transnational  drug challenges, stemming  from situation  of crises.
“We shall also advocate to protect the right to health for the most vulnerable, including children, youth, people using drugs, people with drug use disorder and people  who need access to control medicines
“The theme and the hashtag “#CareInCrises” campaign, help us make the World Drug Day a turning point in global efforts to tackle drug challenges,’ he said.
