Veteran actor, Baba Atoli, is dead

The Nigerian movie industry, especially the Yoruba-speaking sector of the film industry has been thrown into a state of mourning due to the death of a veteran actor, Olaniyi Raji a.k.a Baba Atoli.

The sad news of the actor’s demise was shared by actress, Foluke Daramola, on her verified Instagram account.

Sharing a photo of the deceased, she wrote; “Sad we lost baba Atoli. Such a shame.” 

Before his demise, Baba Atoli had sought financial support as he was suffering from an undisclosed illness.

The actor had posted a video on youtube, calling on the Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, and the national president of the Theatre Arts and Motion Picture Practitioners Association of Nigeria (TAMPAN), Bolaji Amusan, popularly known as Mr Latin, for support. 

According to the report, Baba Atoli had been ill for a long time, battling an illness which is yet to be revealed. The cause of his death is unknown.

Various movies in which Baba Atoli featured include Destiny, Hostess, Ọmọge, Give and Take, Unforgivable, and Happy Homes (a drama series once aired on DSTV). 

The veteran actor also brought back and repackaged “FEYIKOGBON” – one of the most popular and longest-running Yoruba TV programmes.
