Accredited cost engineers, valuers and engineering economists have been urged to boost their digital technology prowess as more companies embrace new technologies that are changing the way businesses operate.
Speaking yesterday at the 2022 national technical conference and investiture of the Nigerian Institute of Appraisal and Cost Engineers (IA&CE), the incoming Chairman, Engr Ike Iwenofu, said, “As companies and markets embrace digital transformation, the institute challenges all accredited cost engineers to keep up with emerging technologies and always strive to improve and re-tool for the future.”

While the institute accredited 83 engineers last year, it accredited 46 others at the conference.
The outgoing Chairman of IA&CE, Engr Charles Mbelede, said, “Cost engineering, engineering valuation and engineering economy principles when properly applied with attention to professional details would enhance the advancement of the frontiers of communication and digital economy in Nigeria.”
President, Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), Engr Tasiu Wudil, said NSE was prioritising rural infrastructure, especially on power, with projects done in Kebbi and Maiduguri.
The Minister of Communication and Digital Economy, Isa Pantami, who was represented by the Director, Spectrum Management, in the ministry, Engr Joseph Anagonye, said: “I, therefore, urge this institute to use this platform for researchers, practitioners and educators to research on the current trends for cost engineering in promoting communication and digital economy.”
The Director, Industrial Inspectorate Department at the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment, Anietie Umoessein, said the ministry sponsored 10 officers for the conference to deepen their knowledge on cost engineering.
