Why Kebbi govt revokes N7bn state secretariat’s contract

The Kebbi State Governor, Abubakar Atiku Bagudu, has said his government revoked the N7 billion contract for the construction of an ultra-modern state secretariat for lack of commitment from the company handling the project.

He said the company refused to mobilise to the site two years after renegotiation for the completion of the project.

The project awarded by the immediate past government of Governor Usman Dakingari at the cost of N4 billion is to provide office accommodation for all ministries, head of service, secretary to the state government, mosque and a restaurant.

Bagudu, while answering questions from journalists as part of activities to mark the Democracy Day in Birnin Kebbi, said Dakingari reviewed the cost to N7 billion at the time he was about to be sworn in for his first term in office.

He added that after coming on board, his government engaged the company and that an outstanding payment of over N900 million was effected with a view to remobilise it to the site for completion of the project.

He added that two years after the renegotiation for the completion of the project, the company refused to go back to the site but only to come back asking for a review of the contract for the second time which his government refused.
