AAC presidential candidate quits over party crises

The presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), Engr Yakubu Mohammed, has announced his withdrawal from the race following internal crises bedevilling the party.

Speaking with newsmen in Awka, the Anambra State capital, while on a campaign, Mohammed said he could not contest for the presidency of the country on the platform of a political party that was in a crisis.

He said his decision followed a court order that affirmed the owner of Sahara Reporters, Mr Omoyele Sowore, as the presidential candidate of the party after the primary election.

Mohammed had in the primary election scored a total of 121 votes to defeat his opponent who scored 38 votes to emerge the candidate of the party.

He said, “On June 8, African Action Congress (AAC) conducted a primary in which I won. The intractable party infighting for the control of the party’s soul has seen the party embroiled in numerous court cases.”
