Emir of Kwatarkwashi in Zamfara dies at 93

The Emir of Kwatarkwashi in Bungudu LGA of Zamfara State, Alhaji Ahmad Umar Mai-Kwatarkwashi, has died. He passed on yesterday aged 93.

A statement signed by the Secretary to the Zamfara State Government, Alhaji Kabiru Balarabe, said the emir died after a prolonged illness.

His funeral prayer was scheduled for 6:30pm yesterday at his palace in Kwatarkwashi.

Mai Kwatarkwashi was crowned by Sultan Abubakar III on March 17, 1961.

He was the eldest and longest-serving emir in Zamfara State with 61 years on the throne.
