The Lagos State Police Command Wednesday dispelled news of a planned Fulani invasion of residents of the ancient town of Badagry.

A WhatsApp voice note alleging a planned Fulani invasion of Badagry had gone viral on social media, prompting the police to carry out a discrete investigation.

The voice message, which was shared on different WhatsApp platforms had created tension in most parts of the Lagos metropolis. Some residents have also started to move out of the area for fear of being caught up in a crossfire.

But in a swift reaction, the Commissioner of Police in Lagos, Abiodun Alabi, in a statement assured residents of the state of the safety of their lives and property.

He urged the public to dismiss the voice note as the handiwork of mischief makers hell-bent on creating fear in minds of members of the public.
