Former governor of Borno State, Senator Kashim Shettima, has said that the national leader of the All Progressives Congress, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, stood with President Muhammadu Buhari even when his kinsmen disowned him prior to the 2015 elections.
Kashim Shettima disclosed this during an interview on Channels TV’s Politics Today on Friday.

The former governor was commenting on Tinubu’s recent comment on how he helped the president into power in 2015 and the race for 2023 presidency.
Tinubu’s comment has generated a lot of reactions, with many attributing it to desperation for power, an allegation the presidential aspirant repudiated.
Shettima said, “If we can go down memory lane, their relationship transcends 2015. it started quite earlier. He made an attempt at a marriage even in 2011 election.
“But prior to the 2013/2014 and subsequent presentation of Muhammadu Buhari, a famous traditional ruler from Northern Nigeria led his own team and went to Asiwaju in Lagos and told him not in our name; he (Buhari) does not represent us.
“A group of retired generals equally approached Asiwaju and told him not in their name. This is not our candidate. So also the northern establishment, a professor led the team and disowned President Buhari.
“And to add insult to the injury was a delegation from Katsina that disowned the president and said he was not their anointed candidate.”
He added that Tinubu stood all these pressures, saying without the block votes from the South West during the presidential primary in Lagos that year, President Buhari could not have clinched the ticket.
