A former political adviser to a former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, Dr Umar Ardo, has won the governorship ticket of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Adamawa State.
The Chairman of the SDP electoral committee, Mustapha Jibrilla Aliyu, said Ardo clinched the ticket after 678 delegates affirmed his candidacy in a primary held in Yola.

He said, “The sole aspirant, Dr Umar Ardo, was elected as the party’s flagbearer for the 2023 governorship election through affirmation by the 678 delegates from all the 226 wards across the state.”
Ardo had defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) after taking the party to court 11 times over “lack of internal democracy”.
