Visitor drugs nursing mum, steals 41-day-old baby in Ogun

The police in Ogun State are on the trail of one Eniola Koyede for stealing a 41-day-old baby in Aboro, Agbado area of the state.

City & Crime learnt that the fleeing suspect is a friend of the nursing mother, one Pelumi, who she visited around 9pm on Sunday.

The suspect reportedly met Pelumi preparing tea and requested to also have a drink and even gave Pelumi N1,000 to buy more tea.

It was learnt that she offered to prepare the tea for both of them and in the process laced Pelumi’s tea with a substance.

“The nursing mother slept off shortly after drinking the tea and her friend fled with the baby,” a source in the community told our correspondent.

It was gathered that Pelumi realised her child was missing when her brother-in-law came in around 10pm and woke her up.

Another source told our correspondent that the family went to Koyede’s house but didn’t meet her.

The case was reported to the police at the Agbado Division who traced the baby to Koyede’s father’s house in the neighbourhood through her boyfriend identified as Ojo.

The source said, “Ojo and Abayomi are friends. By virtue of that, she and Pelumi also became friends. When the family could not reach Eniola (Koyede) on the phone, they held Ojo who eventually reached out to Eniola’s father on the phone.

“The man is called Bawotide and he is a herbalist. Ojo’s phone was on speaker while he was talking to the man. In the process, they heard a baby crying in the background.

“Ojo then lied to the herbalist that he wanted to consult him for a spiritual help and he described his house for him. Police followed them to the house in Olaogun (also in Agbado) and arrested the herbalist. The baby was also rescued but Eniola is still at large.”

The police spokesman in the state, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, confirmed the incident, adding that the case had been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department at Eleweran, Abeokuta.
