62-year-old man drowns in Kwara well

The body of a 62-year-old man, identified as Ibrahim Tajudeen has been recovered from a well in Ilorin, Kwara State.

It was gathered that the incident occurred behind Olayemi Hospital, off Airport road, Gbagba area, Ilorin around 8:00pm on Friday.

Residents told Daily Trust on Saturday that the deceased had been battling with mental issues before the incident.

“We were standing outside and saw him when he walked past toward the direction of the well. But nobody thought he had any ulterior motive.

“It was while searching for him that we discovered he had been trapped inside the well,” a source noted.

The spokesperson for the Kwara State Fire Service, Hassan Adekunle, confirmed the incident.

“We handed him over to one Mr Onawole Najeem, his elder brother, who confirmed he was 62 years old.

“The Director, Kwara State Fire Service, Prince Falade John Olumuyiwa, expressed sadness over the incident and advised the general public to be more vigilant in their neighbourhoods as to prevent similar occurrences,” Hassan added.
