It was learnt that the police sergeant attached to the chairman had engaged the kidnappers in a gun battle but he was overpowered.

Investigation revealed that the sergeant was a 400-level student of the Nasarawa State University keffi, studying sociology.

He had enrolled for the course while carrying out his duty as a policeman.

It was learnt that the body of the deceased police officer was recovered at about 7pm on Friday.

“The gunmen mounted roadblocks along the Keffi-Akwanga road and shot sporadically into the air which compelled them to stop their vehicle before they were kidnapped,” a source told Daily Trust.

The Commissioner of Police, Nasarawa state command, Mr Adesina Soyemi, who confirmed the incident to our correspondent, said Policemen had taken over the location of the attack in order to rescue the victims and arrest the kidnappers.

“Police operatives are now in the area where they were kidnapped. We have taken over the environment and I can assure you that they would soon be rescued and the perpetrators of the act would not escape the wrath of the law,” he stated.
