Blasphemy: CAN, JNI caution youths against inciting comments

The Jema’a Local Government Area chapters of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) and the Jama’atu Nasril Islam (JNI) in Kaduna State have called on the people, especially youths, to be sensitive in their engagements on social media and restrain from making inciting statements.

The Jema’a JNI Secretary, Alhaji Ilyasu Musa; the CAN Assistant Secretary, Reverend Ido Yakubu, and the local government Chairman, Markus Yunana Barde, in a joint statement, called on traditional and religious leaders to preach peace and prevail on their subjects to embrace peace and tolerate others.

“Anyone caught perpetrating violence or engaging in activities capable of obstructing the atmosphere or peaceful coexistence should be arrested and dealt with accordingly.

“We resolve to be law abiding and to live in peace with one another despite our seeming religious and ethnic differences and warn our people against taking the law into their own hands,” the statement read in part.

They issued the statement after a security meeting held at the palace of the Emir of Jema’a, Alhaji Muhammad Isa Muhammad, in Kafanchan.

It would be recalled that one Isaac, popularly known as Marafan Tsoriyang, had in a social media posting called on Southern Kaduna people to take laws into their hands.

He had commented on his Facebook page and also made an audio message that went viral on the killing of Deborah Samuel, a second-level female student of Shehu Shagari College of Education, Sokoto, who was lynched over blasphemy against Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).

Daily Trust recalls that the Kaduna State Government had banned religious protests in the state, with armoured tanks stationed at all the entrances to the Kafanchan metropolis since Monday.
