The Minister of Communication and Digital Economy, Dr Isa Ali Pantami, has commissioned 76 housing units built by the Federal Ministry of Works and Housing in Gombe State under the National Housing Programme (NHP).
Pantami said the project was in line with the President Muhammadu Buhari administration’s development agenda to meet the housing needs of Nigerians, adding that the commissioning was in response to Nigerians’ aspirations to own homes.
The minister explained that the 76 housing units comprised of 48 units of two-bedroom, 24 units of three-bedroom and four units of one-bedroom bungalows.
According to him, the project which started in 2016 to ensure availability of befitting accommodation for Nigerians, was executed with road networks, a drainage system, boreholes and overhead water tanks, electricity and other facilities.
He commended the state government for donating the land, and other private sector stakeholders that collaborated with the federal government during the project.
The North East Zonal Director of the NHP, Usman Bashir, said the project would have socio-economic impact on the host community, noting that it would create employment and other benefits to Nigerians, adding that it was being implemented across the 35 states of the federation.
Bashir further said the houses had been offered to Nigerians in a non-discriminatory manner through the NHP portal application to ensure that interested persons were not inhibited by artificial obstacles.
