The National Directorate of Employment (NDE) said it is training 130 youths in Benue and another 80 youths in Plateau, on perfumery, baking, make-up and other skills.
The Benue youths had a five-day training on Gele/make-up/events, tie and dye, organic natural products as well as beadwork and perfumery.
The Director-General, Alhaji Abubakar Fikpo, said the training aligns with the Women Employment Branch of the Small-Scale Enterprises (SSE) department of NDE.
Represented by the Assistant Director, SSE, Mathew Apochi, the NDE head advised the participants to make themselves available at each day’s training adding that, presently, one cannot make ends meet by having an educational certificate alone while he emphasised the need for people to learn a trade.
The Benue State Co-ordinator, Emmanuel Ugela, the NDE head said: “The objectives of the training include, to encourage young women develop passion for trending skills, help women start their own micro business ventures, improve on their economic well-being and help them to become self reliant.”
In Jos, Plateau state, the training is also on how to produce natural organic products, tie and dye, stone-bread work and perfumery.
The State Coordinator, Malam Ibrahim Abdulazeez, urged the beneficiaries to use the opportunity to ensure they replicated the knowledge acquired from the training.
Abdulazeez also said such training was designed to promote attitudinal change which will reduce poverty and generate employment.
“That is exactly what we have been doing for so many years. So, our coming here is deliberate. The intention is for young people to be self-reliant and to generate income within your households and immediate communities,” the coordinator said.
One of the beneficiaries, Mary Nyam, promised to ensure that the knowledge acquired would be put to diligent use.
