With the development, Barau will be challenging Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje who has been endorsed to pick the senatorial ticket for the APC by party stakeholders.
Barau, one of the leading governorship aspirants in Kano State, dropped his ambition 24 hours after Ganduje anointed his deputy as the consensus candidate of the party.

Sources said the lawmaker, who is one of the leaders of the G-7, a splinter group in the Kano APC, was prevailed upon by the party leaders to drop his governorship ambition and return to the senate.
The lawmaker, in a phone interview, confirmed that he had picked the forms to return to the red chamber.
