Massive defection hits assembly as 11 PDP lawmakers move to NNPP, APC

There was massive defection in the Kano State House of Assembly as 11 members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have dumped the party for the All Progressives Congress (APC) and New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), respectively.

Daily Trust Saturday gathered that 10 out of the 11 members defected to the NNPP while the member representing Kano Municipal, Salisu Maje Ahmed Gwangwazo, defected to the ruling APC.

According to the letter he addressed to the Speaker Kano State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Engineer Hamisu Ibrahim Chidari, Ahmed Gwangwazo said his decision to join the APC was due to division in the leadership of the PDP both at state and national levels.

According to a statement by the Director Press and Public Affairs of the Assembly, Uba Abdullahi, the speaker congratulated the member for joining the APC and assured him that the party would carry him and his people along on all matters related to the party.

However, the other 10 lawmakers also sent their respective letters dated May 6 and addressed to the Speaker, notifying the House of their defection over alleged leadership tussle in the PDP.
