Abuja students develop app for agribiz

Some students of the Government Day Secondary School Karu in Abuja have developed a mobile application, Agric Secured, which they said is to track food price inflation.

According to a statement from the school, the mobile app was developed under the Abuja Young Entrepreneurs Club (AYEC) Nigeria project in partnership with the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Secondary Education Board on Entrepreneurship.

They said it will help to reduce unemployment among the teaming youths once it is commercialised.

According to them, they got the idea in January 2022 to solve the problem of food wastage, hoarding by middlemen and extortions by security personnel at security checkpoints.

“The app is in the process of being commercialised so that farmers, youths, and everyone can participate in this sector to be self-reliant as this sector has been neglected. “Moreover, it has the capacity to solve the problems our country is currently facing such as wealth creation, idle/unemployed individuals and food shortage and wastage,” the statement noted.

AYEC), formerly known as AEA Entrepreneurs Club (EC) was launched by the Abuja Enterprise Agency (AEA) in 2021 after a two-day training programme for 35 participants drawn from the FCT SEB and Public Secondary Schools in all the six Area Councils of FCT.

AYEC was conceived out of the agency’s desire to entrench entrepreneurial skills in secondary schools within the FCT. Its objective is to bring out creativity, innovation and unique business ideas; to promote social entrepreneurship in every school and to provide a platform to develop these ideas into profitable business ventures, said AEA.
