It was gathered that two of the cultists belonging to the Aye confraternity traced one of their targets of the Eye confraternity to the place but did not meet him.

Narrating the incident, the wife of one of the victims, Iya Taofeeq, told City & Crime that, “The incident happened around past 8pm shortly after my husband finished the Ramadan Tarawih prayers known as Asamu here.

“After the prayers, he went to meet his two other friends at a spot they used to relax after the prayers every day.

“Suddenly, we started hearing gunshots and many people ran away.

“But after normalcy returned and I came out from the house, I met my husband with his two friends in the pool of their blood.”

A resident, who craved anonymity, told our correspondent that the two groups had been engaged in a supremacy battle which led to the killing of one of the Aye members at Agbo Oba some days before the latest incident.

He said, “They traced their target, who also used to hang around in the area, but they did not meet him.

“They asked Baba Taofeeq and his friends if they knew his whereabouts. But their response that: ‘How would we know?’ angered them and they shot them dead before shooting sporadically.”

He added that, “What we know of cultist before now is that they don’t kill innocent persons no matter the situation; except by mistake. That is why this incident is particularly worrisome.”

The police spokesman in the state, Ajayi Okasanmi, told our correspondent on the phone that he was not aware of the incident.
