Bullion van somersaults as robbers open fire in Imo

A driver of a first generation bank escaped on Thursday when a bullion van he was driving somersaulted in Ogbor Nguru, Aboh Mbaise Local Government Area of Imo State.

The van somersaulted when the driver tried to evade bullets from armed robbers.

Eyewitnesses said the the driver was taking the money to the bank when he came under fire from heavily armed men, but the police said no money was in the van when it was attacked.

However as he bravely tried to manoeuvre and escape the van somersaulted.

The early arrival of security men further thwarted the efforts of the armed men to cart away the money.

Police Public Relations Officer CSP Michael Abatham, who confirmed the incident, said that the police were on the trail of the criminals.

Abatham said, “Sketchy information revealed that the bullion van was returning after delivering money and was attacked by hoodlums. The driver on noticing it tried to escaped unfortunately, his vehicle capsized. No money was carted away please.”
