550 golfers hit IBB golf course for 2022 Captains’ Cup

The IBB International Golf And Country Club, Abuja will again come alive today as 550 golfers slug it out in the 2022 Captains’ Cup as part of the activities lined up to send forth the outgoing Captain, Sen. Emmanuel Anosike.

At a press conference held yesterday to herald the week-long tournament, the planning committee chairman, Chief Bayo Ojo (SAN), represented by the vice chairman, Dr Banjo Obaleye, said the competition was to mark the end of Sen. Anosike’s tenure as captain.

“The captain’s tenure is over and we are sending him off with the 2022 Captains’ Cup. There will be five countries such as Uganda, Rwanda, Kenya, Botswana and Ghana participating. We will be having captains of the major golf courses in the country as well,” he said.

In her own submission, the outgoing Lady Captain, MaryRose Richard-Obioha, stated that the past year was most exciting as it was the first time members played golf all year round without the course being shut down.

The secretary, Professional Golfers Association (PGA) of Nigeria, Mr Jide Bolaji, said the best golfers will partake in the tournament with the winner going home with N2m.

“The PGA as a body is excited as we are always looking for opportunity to develop golf in the country. We are committed to make it a successful one and we have picked the best of our professionals to be part of this tournament,” he said.
