Miyetti Allah distances self from Benue killings

The Benue State chapter of the Myetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN), on Thursday, distanced itself from the recent killings of villagers in three Local Government Areas of the state.

Our correspondent reports that at least 25 people were killed in simultaneous attacks on several villages of Guma, Logo and Tarka LGAs, on Tuesday.

The survivors of the mayhem had claimed that their attackers were herders who laid siege to their vicinity.

But in a statement, on Thursday, the State Chairman of MACBAN, Alhaji Mohammed Risku, and his Secretary, Ibrahim Galma, condemned the killings and condoled with the people.

The association stated that the attacks were not carried out by their members, stressing the need for the security agencies to investigate the matter and bring the culprits to justice.

“This is in response to the recent killings in Guma LGA on 11/4/2022, Logo LGA and Tarka LGA on 12/4/2022 in Benue State.”

“The MACBAN, Benue State chapter, has condemned these acts of brutal killings of innocent people in Benue State in totality. Our condolences to the families of victims, Benue State Government and the entire people of the state for this loss.

“We wish to state that, the said attacks were not carried out by our members in the state as it’s been stated by the media. There are no Fulani herders in Tarka LGA and in Guma LGA, there is no any misunderstanding or provocation between the farmers and herders particularly in the areas where the attacks were carried out.

“Therefore, we call on the security agencies to go after the culprits of these crimes in the interest of justice.”
