2 jailed for stealing dead man’s iron rail

An Ogun state magistrate court sitting in Abeokuta, on Wednesday, sentenced two men Dauda Suleiman,29, and Dare Coker,29, to six months imprisonment each for stealing iron rail worth N50,000.

The duo had pleaded guilty to the two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing, when arraigned before the court.

Earlier, the Prosecutor, Inspector Olaide Rawlings, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on April 11 at Ajegule community, behind Lisabi Estate Club, Idi-Aba area in Abeokuta.

Rawlings stated that the convicts conspired to steal one iron rail property of one late Chief Soyebi without the consent of anyone.

She explained that the convicts entered into where the iron rail was kept and stole it, and while on their way with the stolen item, they were caught by one Mr Michael Ogunrombi, who identified the iron rail to be late Chief Soyebi’s property.

She added that on their arrest, they admitted to the crime.

He said the offence contravened Sections 516 and 390 of the criminal code laws of Ogun  2006.

In his ruling, the Magistrate S.S Shotayo, sentenced Suleiman and Coker, to six months imprisonment each witht no option of fine.
