Sit-at-home: One killed, vehicle burnt as gunmen attack Enugu motor park

One person has been killed and a Sienna vehicle burnt by armed miscreants reportedly enforcing the weekly sit-at-home in Enugu, despite its ban by the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

It was learnt that the driver of the burnt vehicle who escaped unhurt was waiting for passengers to fill the car when the gunmen stormed the popular Holy Ghost motor park at ChrisChemist area and attacked the vehicle and some passengers already inside.

The Holy Ghost motor park is close to the popular Catholic Holy Ghost Cathedral in Enugu North Local Government Area within the Enugu metropolis.

The park is also a walking distance from the Enugu State Police Command Headquarters.

Daily Trust gathered that the driver of the burnt vehicle usually load early Monday morning to beat a mob enforcing the sit-at-home order.

He was said to be standing some distance away from his vehicle, when the gunmen arrived in a mini bus and set hIs vehicle on fire.

Enugu Police Public Relations Officer, Daniel Ndukwe, who confirmed the incident, said one person was shot and was later confirmed dead in a hospital.

Ndukwe stated that a manhunt had been launched to fish out the perpetrators.
The PPRO said in a statement, “Yet-to-be identified miscreants, operating in a mini bus, shot an unidentified male traveller and in the process torched a Sienna vehicle around Chris Chemist Roundabout, Enugu, in the early morning hours of today.
“The victim was immediately moved to the hospital for treatment by police operatives, who responded to a distress call on the incident.
“He, however, was later confirmed dead by doctors on duty and his deposited in the mortuary for preservation and autopsy.”
