2023: APC, party to beat irrespective of zoning – Gov Yahaya Bello

The Kogi State governor and presidential aspirant, Yahaya Bello, has said his party, the All Progressives Congress (APC) remains the party to beat in the 2023 general elections, irrespective of zoning.

Speaking at the ‘Second Annual GYB Seminar’ for political and crime correspondents and editors, Bello said the party knew the mood and body language of the country and would strategise towards retaining power.

He expressed optimism that he would win the party’s presidential ticket to succeed President Muhammadu Buhari and build on his legacies irrespective of the mode of nomination.

“The APC is still the party that will produce the next president of Nigeria. The party is very strategic. Forget about zoning or no zoning; it is about who is a leader and would put the party together.

He promised to key into President Buhari’s economic plan to lift 100million Nigerians out of poverty by 2030.

Speaking about the security challenges in the country, Bello said that as president, he would deploy technology to secure Nigeria.

“Kogi used to be the crime capital of Nigeria, but it has changed. I faced it frontally, refusing to politicise security,” he said.

He said President Buhari had done well in securing the country, saying state governments should work hard to secure their respective states rather than wait on the president to come to their aid.

“When I become president, I will ensure that the various federating units are empowered to tackle insecurity in their states,” he said.
