Borno State Governor, Babagana Umara Zulum, yesterday, announced a 200 per cent salary increase for casual workers, who earned N10, 000 monthly.

The governor announced the salary increase when he supervised the distribution of cash and food items to casual workers at the Government House in Maiduguri, the state’s capital. 

“I am proud of all of you for your commitment to ensuring cleanliness and maintenance of the Government House. 

“This is Ramadan and charity begins at home, and that is why I decided to assist you with foodstuff and some funds to support yourselves and your family in this holy month,” he said. 

The governor urged them to use the period of fasting to pray fervently for the return of peace across the state and country in general. 

Jigawa reduces working hours 

The Jigawa State Government has reduced official working hours in the state’s civil service by two hours. 

The state’s Head of Civil Service, Hussaini Ali Kila, in a statement yesterday, said workers would now report to the office at 9 am and close by 3 pm between Mondays and Thursdays as against 5 pm. 

“Furthermore, workers would report to work on Fridays by 9 am and close by 1 pm as usual”. 

He explained that the gesture was to provide more time for the workers to observe spiritual activities during the Holy Month.

Kila urged civil servants in the state to use the Ramadan period to pray for the peace and economic prosperity of the state and Nigeria at large. 

Kano earmarks N550 million for Ramadan feeding

Kano State government has launched a Ramadan feeding programme aimed at alleviating the suffering of the less-privileged. 

Speaking during the launch yesterday in Kano, the state’s Acting Governor, Dr Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna, enjoined the feeding committee members to be just in the discharge of their assignments.

The state’s Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Alhaji Murtala Sule Garo, said the government has earmarked N550 million for the feeding programme.
