The police in Ogun State have arrested a 50-year-old pastor, Isaac Akinbola and two women, Esther Olowolayemo and Oluwakemi Oshinbajo, following the death of an eight-month-old baby, Obadiah Akinbola.

It was gathered that Akinbola had led Olowolayemo, 29 and Oshinbajo, 30 – believed to be his mistresses – to allegedly assaulted his wife, Dasola Akinbola.

In the process of the alleged assault, the eight-month-old baby and son of the pastor reportedly fell from its mother’s hands.

Our correspondent gathered that the incident occurred at Ipinle area of Mamu Ijebu in Ijebu North LGA of Ogun State.

The police arrested the suspects following a report by the mother of the baby at the Awa Ijebu Divisional Police Headquarters.

The woman reportedly told the police that she had a disagreement with her pastor husband over alleged illicit affairs with some female members of the unnamed church.

According to her, the husband and two women, whom she suspected of having affairs with her husband, stormed her house at Ipinle area of Mamu Ijebu and beat her up.

She told the police that while they were beating her, her eight-month-old baby, Obadiah Akinbola, fell down from her hands.

The police spokesman, Abimbola Oyeyemi, on Sunday in Abeokuta told newsmen that following the report, the DPO, Awa Ijebu Division, CSP Adewalehinmi Joshua, ordered the arrest of the three suspects, while the woman and her baby were taken to Mamu Ijebu health centre for medical care.

Oyeyemi said the woman and the baby were later referred to Blessed Hospital Oru Ijebu where it was discovered that the baby had sustained an internal injury after he fell from his mother’s hands during the scuffle.

He said the child died of internal injury while receiving treatment at the hospital.

Oyeyemi said the remains of the child had been deposited at Ijebu Igbo General Hospital mortuary for autopsy.

He quoted the Commissioner of Police, Lanre Bankole, to have ordered the immediate transfer of the suspects to the homicide section of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department for further investigation with the view to prosecuting the suspects.
