Pensioners commend Fayemi over release of N200m for gratuities

The Nigeria Union of Pensioners (NUP), Ekiti State Council, has commended Governor Kayode Fayemi for releasing N200 million to pay the backlog of gratuities owed local and state government pensioners.

The pensioners’ appreciation was contained in a letter addressed to the governor and signed by the union’s chairman, Joel Akinola.

The union applauded the governor for demonstrating a strong commitment to the payment of pension and gratuities in the state.

It expressed delight that the gesture had alleviated the sufferings of its members and given hope to those on the waiting list.

Akinola said the governor’s ability to source for the fund on monthly basis, despite the state’s low financial resources was a clear testimony of his determination to offset a backlog of gratuities owed pensioners by previous administrations in the state.

He added that the governor’s positive disposition to the plight of his members in the state had led to a significant improvement in their wellbeing.
