There are strong indications that the Seat of Caliphate is set to celebrate Sallah in grand style as Sokoto Polo Club is planning to host a mini tournament during the festive period to mark the end of Ramadan Fasting period.
Captain Sokoto Polo Club, Faruk Koko who dropped this hint, stated that apart from the usual Sallah celebration, this club is looking forward to using the tourney to say a big thank you to the State Governor, Aminu Tambuwal for donating big acres of land to the club to build its new field and clubhouse.
Polo Royals also gathered that the mini-event this year is part of a long list of planned events by the club to showcase to the public that Sokoto polo is back and galloping, just as the idea is also generating a lot of interest among polo enthusiasts within the state and across the country.
“Yes, we have been having a series of meetings about hosting a mini tournament this year. According to the plan, we are looking at the forthcoming Sallah Celebration as a possible date for the event, “Koko told Polo Royals in a chat in Lagos recently.
“Sokoto Polo Club needs the support of everyone who truly loves the game. They should not be left alone in this drive to reestablish the king of games in that part of the country”.
“We are hoping to use the Salah event to solicit public support in our effort to develop our new land the governor kindly allocated to us in fulfillment of his promise to resuscitate the noble game of the kings in the state,” he added.
