Power minister in Germany over Siemens’ project

The minister of power, Engr Abubakar D. Aliyu, has led a delegation of key officials in the power sector to the Siemens Energy headquarters in Berlin, Germany, to discuss progress of the ongoing Siemens Presidential Power Initiative (PPI).

According to a statement from his office yesterday, the minister was received by the president and chief executive officer of Siemens Energy, Dr Christian Bruch.

While the meeting reviewed progress of the PPI, the minister’s visit was also aimed at working with Siemens to fast track the delivery of the mobile substations and transformers ordered by the Nigerian government to improve and stabilise electricity across the country.

The overall essence of the visit, according the statement from the minister’s office, is to enable the officials review the initiative with a view to fast tracking the delivery.

Engr Aliyu was accompanied by the managing director of FGN Power Company, Mr Kenny Anuwe; the head, Project Management Office (PMO), Engr Balarabe Shehu; a director at the ministry, Engr Farouk Yabo; and the chief technical officer (CTO) of FGN Power Company, Engr Idowu Oyebanjo.

FGN Power Company is the local implementing firm of the Siemens project; cutting across transmission and distribution sections of the power sector value chain in the first phase.

The minister also participated in a panel session at the eighth Berlin Energy Transition Dialogue (BETD) under the motto: “From Ambition to Action”.

The minister and his counterparts from more than 50 countries and high level international delegations held discussions with representatives from the business community, academia and civil society. The thrust of the discussions was on strategies for the intelligent transformation of energy systems around the world.
