4 killed in Kogi cult clash

A clash between rival cult groups in Lokoja, capital of Kogi State, has led to the killing of four people and burning of many houses.

City & Crime learnt that the cult crisis started on Monday night when two rival cult groups engaged in a free-for-all over a lingering issue.

According to a source, the cultists were mostly teenagers whose ages ranged between 13 and 17.

Following the clash, many residents moved their families out of the area to avoid being caught by bullets.

A resident reported that the crisis sparked off when a cultist who was alleged to have killed a member of a rival group was spotted in the area.

Thereafter, the rival cultists, armed with guns and other weapons, mobilised and invaded the family house of the rival set the house on fire and attacked people believed to be sympathetic to the rival’s cult group.

The police spokesman in the state, SP William Aya, confirmed the incident, saying one person was killed and that 15 suspects had been arrested.
